Despite being the most energy-efficient form of transport, the shipping industry accounts for 3% of global GHG emissions – owing to the sheer size of trade each year – and with trade expected to increase for many years to come, there is a risk that greenhouse gas ("GHG") emissions from shipping will increase further.
